Payasam is very sweet and tasty dessert and it is familiar to everyone. We will remember sweet and thick dessert when we hear this name 'Payasam'. Vermicelli Payasam is very much popular and famous in everywhere and everyone has tasted it. This was making and using long years ago and it is completely traditional dessert. Vermicelli will be available on markets but now we can make it from home. Vermicelli is very thin and look like threads and looking very attractive and we can make different dishes by using this. It is one of the highly demanded items in market especially to make Payasam. Upma, Idly, Dosa, Sweet Snacks and Ice Creams are the main common dishes of Vermicelli. It will become very soft after cooking it so its taste is really good. I have made Vermicelli Payasam in my home so many times but today I got a new idea to get variety taste so I used Chocolate here. I can't explain its taste by words so you have to taste it at least once. Its main flavour is Chocolate flavour and also got the Brown colour of Chocolate. These two combinations are really good to make payasam. It is entirely different from other payasam and its taste is amazing. I think that this dessert is very new to everyone. This is my own recipe and I used the ingredients which I like and everyone in my family like this very much. This is very sweet and thick dessert and it can use as the dessert after lunch and dinner. This can serve as the special dessert for Birthday celebrations or special occasions. If we serve it to guests definitely we will get a lot of compliments from them.  I served it when my aunt came to home and she surprised and got good compliments from her. I am really happy to share this dessert to everybody because its taste is really good and everyone can get good and variety feelings. I know that Chocolate is the favourite item for everyone especially children so this desert also will be very special to everyone. Let us celebrate our festivals with this sweet dessert.     

Preparation Time - 7 minutes
Cooking Time - 10 minutes
Decoration - Kiss miss, Peanuts and cashew nuts


Roasted Vermicelli - 1/2 cup
Grated Dark Chocolate - 1/2 cup
Milk - 3 cups
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Ghee - 2 tab spoon
Cashew nuts - 10
Peanuts - 8 - 10
Kiss miss - 10 -12

  • In a pan, pour Milk and boil milk well.
  • Then add roasted vermicelli to this and cook it until soft. 
  • Then add sugar to this and stir until it dissolves completely.
  • Then add Grated Dark Chocolate and stir well until dissolves it completely.
  • Heat 1 tab spoon ghee in a pan and fry cashew nuts, kiss miss and peanuts until light brown colour and add to it and mix well.
  • Pour it in a serving bowl and serve it.
  • To get good smell and variety taste add Cardamom Powder and Dried Ginger Powder.
  • It will be tastier if we use Condensed Milk instead of using Sugar.
