Jackfruit is available in summer season especially in Kerala. Jackfruit is very big fruit, looking beautiful and very tasty to use. You can cultivate in your house without any effort and care. We are using both raw and ripe jackfruit to make different tasty dishes. Stir fry, aviyal, erriserry, chips and cutlet are the main dishes of raw jack fruit. I would like to share the recipe of mashed jackfruit through this article.
Mashed Jack fruit or chakka vevichathu is one of the special and famous traditional dish in Kerala. Mainly it is very natural and homemade dish. We can use it as breakfast, dinner and evening time special food. It is very tasty to use at any time. We should have some patients to cook this dish because it will take more time to make this but it is very tasty dish. In my home, we are usually preparing this dish in summer season and everyone in my family like this very much. We can make a lot of variety and tasty dishes by jack fruit. Keralites can't avoid this food because it is their traditional special dish. It is an excellent combination with beef curry, chicken curry and fish curry and also it is better combination with pickle and chutney. Someone is using this food with rice that will give us some other good and super experiences. We need not to add much more ingredients to make this and we are getting very tasty food with limited ingredients. We can use it hot or cold as per our preference. It is very simple and easy method of preparation. In some places it is used as the side dish but we are using it as the main dish. Jackfruit is very healthy item and it is very useful to gain weight. It is looking very attractive with natural yellow colour. Keralites are very much busy to make this dish in summer season.

Jack fruit flesh - 3 cups
Grated Coconut - 1 cup
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Garlic - 4
Green chilli - 4
Onion - 2
Shallot - 5
Water - 1 cup
Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
Salt - To taste
Coconut Oil - 1 tab spoon

  • Slice the jack fruit flesh very thin and put it in a pot.
  • To this add salt and water and cover the pot with lid and steam it well.
  • Then crush grated coconut, turmeric powder, sliced garlic, green chilli, chopped onion, shallot and curry leaves together.
  • Remove the lid and stir steamed jack fruit and add crushed mixture to this. 
  • Then cover with the lid again and steam and cook it well under low flame. 
  • Turn off the fire and mix it very well by using ladle and pour coconut oil and mix well and serve it.   
  • To get a variety taste and flavour crush some cumin seeds when make crushed coconut mixture.
  • To get more taste use bird's eye chilli instead of using green chilli.

Fish molly is also known as fish stew. It has different name in different places. We can write it as fish molee. It is completely a traditional tasty curry. I can say that it is entirely different from other fish curries because its colour and method of preparation is completely different from others. It can make it by using any type of fishes. Better to make it with king fish but here I have used Mackerel fish because I couldn't get king fish. Usually we are making spicy red colour fish curry in houses and hotels. Keralites can't eat rice without fish curries or dishes because fishes are the main side dish of their daily day life. It will be available in some standard hotels and it has a royal effect. It will be a special and variety item to everyone. Its tasty is very nice and different from other fish curries. We need not to add chilli powder to make this and also we need to fry the fish before making this curry. Mainly it is preparing by Christians or in Christian houses.
