It is very famous traditional food and Keralites favorite food combination. Mainly it is served as breakfast food. Mashed tapioca will be very tasty if we use any non-vegetarian curry but pork curry will be an excellent combination with tapioca. We have to use well cooked pork otherwise it will be harmful to health. Pork curry is spicy curry so we are using spicy less mashed tapioca with this curry. Everyone can enjoy with this food very much.

Mashed Tapioca

Preparation Time - 15 minutes
Cooking Time -- 25 minutes


Tapioca - 1 kg
Grated Coconut - 1 cup
Onion - 3
Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
Green Chilli - 2
Garlic - 2
Curry Leaves - 2 sprig
Salt - To taste
Water - As required


  • Remove the inner and outer layer peels of Tapioca and cut it as medium size pieces and wash it well and keep it in a pot.
  • Pour plenty of water and add salt and cook it well.
  • Drain the water thoroughly and keep it aside.
  • Crush grated coconut, turmeric powder, onion, green chilli, garlic, curry leaves with water.
  • Add this crushed mix to cooked tapioca and add 1/4 cup water.
  • Cover with lid and cook it until water evaporates.
  • Then turn off the fire and mash it well by using ladle.
  • Transfer in a serving bowl and serve it with Pork Curry.
Pork Curry

Preparation Time - 15 minutes
Cooking Time - 40 minutes


Pork - 1 kg
Onion - 2
Shallot - 10
Green Chilli - 5
Ginger - 1 piece
Garlic - 5
Tomato - 3
Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
Chilli Powder - 2 Tab spoon
Coriander Powder - 3 Tab spoon
Pepper Powder - 1 teaspoon
Grated Coconut - 1 cup
Fennel Powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Garam Masala Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
Salt - To taste
Water - 2 cups
Coconut Oil - 2 Tab spoon
Mustard Seeds - 1 teaspoon

  • Cut pork as small pieces and wash it well and keep it aside.
  • In a pan, heat coconut oil and splutter mustard seeds.
  • To this add chopped shallot, chopped onion, sliced green chilli, chopped ginger, chopped garlic and curry leaves and stir until brown colour.
  • To this add sliced tomato and stir well.
  • Then add pork pieces and stir well for 5 minutes.
  • In a grinder, add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper powder and grated coconut and paste it well. 
  • Add this paste to pork and pour water and mix well.
  • Then cover the pan with lid and cook it and stir occasionally and add fennel powder and mix well.
  • Then cook it well and add garam masala powder and mix well and serve it.
  • It will be healthier if we add a little turmeric powder when we cook tapioca.
  • To get more smell and taste of pork curry add fried cloves, cinnamon stick and cardamom.
  • You can cook pork in coconut milk instead of water.
